Roland Harris

Retail Operations Supervisor GOC, Ltd.Mr. Roland "Butch" Harris received a degree from Dade County Junior College,
now Miami Dade College, in Business Management. Mr. Harris also attended courses for
Supervisory Development at the University of Georgia, in 1977,
Dale Carnegie Training in 1980 and Effective Communication from
Cornell University.
Mr. Harris has over 35 years of management experience in dealing with
workers, customers and company operations. Mr. Harris began his management career at Royal Castle as an assistant manager before
entering and serving four years in United States Marines Corp.
After his honorable discharged, Mr. Harris continued in management as a foreman at G & M Mica Products in which he oversaw shop
operations for the company.
In 1972, Mr. Harris and a business partner started Kitchen Craft in Southern Florida, a
business to design cabinets, countertops and furniture. The business did very well with showrooms in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood.
Mr. Harris went to work for Sunshine Jr. Stores, Inc. as a District Manager in Pensacola, Florida overseeing all aspects
of store operations. In 1977, Mr. Harris was transferred to the Mississippi District of Sunshine Jr. and was responsible for nine store
units. Over the next three years that number was expanded to thirty-three. Mr. Harris was promoted to Division Manager for the
Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1980 operating fifty-one stores with five District Managers.
In 1988, Mr. Harris began work at
Express Food Marts, Inc. He oversaw the retail operations of three stores and within a one year period that number grew to seven stores.
Express Food Marts, Inc was sold off in 1989 at which time Mr. Harris began work for Jim's Minute Mart, running the retail operations for eight stores
that were in chapter 11 bankruptcy. Within five years the company was able to buy itself out of bankruptcy and become profitable.
Since starting with GOC, Ltd. in 1996, Mr. Harris has been
administer over retail operations for the convenient stores, continually finding ways to improve the retail operations.
Today Mr. Harris is actively involved in the continued expansion of convenient stores for GOC, Ltd. Along with his abilities to
organize the retail operations for GOC, Ltd, his vast experience allows him to survey and analyze new site locations for possible
purchase or construction.
Mr. Harris has also been involved in many organizations incuding:
- Mississippi Associations of Convenience Stores
- Sunbelt C-Store Exposition
- Jackson County Bowling Association
- Jackson County Junior Bowlers
